Hyperlake answers: sovereign AI, self-hosted LLM and open data infrastructure questions, answered directly
Hyperlake Answers is a set of short pages that each answer one question about sovereign AI, self-hosted LLMs or open data infrastructure. Every page starts with a direct answer, then works through the follow-up questions with tables, worked examples and checklists, and lists the sources it relies on with the date they were checked.
What will you find here?
Each page takes one question that comes up when teams plan to run AI on infrastructure they control, such as what sovereign AI means, how many GPUs a model needs or when self-hosting beats an API, and answers it in the first paragraph. The rest of the page covers the next questions people ask, with the numbers worked out where there are numbers.
How are these answers written?
Facts link to their source, ideally the standard, the project documentation or the original paper, and examples use clearly labelled example numbers rather than prices that go out of date. Where a page touches something Hyperlake sells, it says so.
Questions answered here
Self-hosting LLMs
- How many GPUs do I need to serve an LLM?GPU count starts with memory: weights by precision, plus KV cache for every token in flight, plus overhead. Worked examples for an 8B and a 70B model.
- How do you deploy an LLM on premises?Deploy an LLM on premises in seven steps: model and licence, GPU sizing, serving engine, gateway, security, monitoring and offline updates.
- Is self-hosting an LLM worth it compared with an API?Self-hosting an LLM pays off when steady volume keeps your GPUs busy enough to beat the API's price per token, or when data and control rules require it.
Sovereign and private AI
- What is sovereign AI?Sovereign AI is AI whose data, models, compute and operations stay under the control and laws of the country or organization that relies on it.
Frequently asked questions
Who writes these answers?
The Hyperlake team. Each page names its sources and the date they were checked, and says where Hyperlake has an interest in the topic.
Do these pages recommend Hyperlake?
They explain each topic in general and say when other routes, such as a hosted API, are the better choice. Where Hyperlake is relevant, a short paragraph near the end says what it does, and the FAQ covers the product itself.
How do I suggest a question?
Send it through the contact form and say what you are trying to decide. Questions that come up often may become new pages.
